HISTORY
F9 Languages in Brussels, formerly known as ‘Fondation 9′, is a language school founded in 1989 under the aegis of the Free University of Brussels (ULB), the Brussels Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BECI) and the City of Brussels.
The non-profit organisation is still actively associated with the ULB and has been run by Caroline Boixeda since 2018. The structure is small in order to remain flexible, efficient and to guarantee a truly tailor-made service.
In 2022, the school moved to its new address at 87 Boulevard Louis Schmidt in Etterbeek. The name Fondation 9 derives from the 9 languages spoken in the European Union in1989 It focuses on teaching seven languages: French, Dutch, English, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. F9 has been the language partner of Médecins Sans Frontières for more than ten years, as well as various NGOs and non-profit organisations. It also provides language support to more than 3,000 ULB students each year as part of the Plan Langues.
